Zum Geschäftsjahr 2022 hat Syntegon seinen ersten Nachhaltigkeitsbericht veröffentlicht. Damit schaffen wir mehr Transparenz und geben neue Einblicke in unser Nachhaltigkeitsmanagement. Den Bericht haben wir in Anlehnung an den anerkannten Nachhaltigkeitsberichtsstandard der Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) erstellt. Er umfasst Informationen aus den Bereichen Umwelt, Soziales und verantwortungsvolle Unternehmensführung.

Nachhaltigkeitsbericht 2022

With its sustainability report 2023, Syntegon is once again creating transparency and is affording stakeholders greater insights into its sustainability management practices. We have prepared the report with reference to the recognized standard of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). It includes information from the areas of environment, social affairs, and responsible corporate governance.

In line with the goals of the United Nations

Syntegon, as a partner to the pharmaceutical and food industries, yet again did its part to make foods and pharmaceuticals safe in 2023, thereby contributing to several of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, such as ending hunger and ensuring healthy lives for all.

Our packaging solutions effectively protect products from dehydration and humidity to preserve their nutritional value, freshness, and flavor. Syntegon’s technologies help ensure medicines are produced and packaged to the highest safety standards. This is how we contribute to the global supply of medicines and vaccines to people.

Sustainable packaging solutions

A renewed focal point of Syntegon’s efforts in 2023 was transitioning from conventional plastic packaging to paper and more recyclable mono-materials.
Syntegon develops technologies that can process sustainable materials efficiently and in a resource-saving way. We support our customers from end to end by drafting requirement profiles, analyzing materials in the lab, testing production runs in our development centers, and retrofitting machines.
Syntegon advises food and pharmaceutical manufacturers on choosing the materials best suited to their products and factories. With our help manufacturers can save material, thus reducing costs, resource consumption, and the burden of disposing of packaging.

Bar meets paper

Mars Wrigley has chosen to flow-wrap one of its popular snack bars in paper, and is collaborating with Syntegon to this end.

Shrinking the carbon footprint of pharmaceuticals and food production

Syntegon’s intelligent, sustainable processing and packaging solutions help boost energy efficiency and conserve resources in food and pharmaceutical industry manufacturing processes. With our life cycle assessment approach implemented for the first time for a customer in 2023 we offer to food and pharmaceutical manufacturers a totally transparent view of the deployed technologies’ carbon footprint.

Efficient systems and comprehensive services are part of our holistic approach to making customers’ production processes more sustainable. Syntegon extends the service life, efficiency, and availability of its machines by managing spare parts, by upgrading to the latest technologies, and by digitally optimizing overall equipment effectiveness.

Tracking down emissions

Syntegon has carried out an exacting analysis to determine the amounts of energy consumed and carbon emitted by Siegfried, a contract development and manufacturing organization for pharmaceuticals.

Reduced emissions

Syntegon is aligned with the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Agreement on climate change. In 2023, we reduced our total energy consumption by sixpercent and our emissions by ten percent compared to the previous year. Syntegon is steadily increasing the share of renewables in the electricity it consumes. It has already grown from 41 percent in 2022 to 66 percent in 2023. We installed new photovoltaic systems at three sites that same year.

Health in the workplace

The health and capabilities of our workforce are Syntegon’s greatest assets. We consider it to be our key responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. We continuously assess potential hazards and risks and consistently take appropriate protective measures. In the interests of holistic health protection, Syntegon also proactively prevents physical and mental health risks in the workplace.

Our medical service offers skin and colon cancer screening, vaccination programs, and general health checks at various locations. As part of special campaign days and sports events, employees learned about important aspects of health in day-to-day working life and promote their wellbeing in 2023.

Syntegon hosted its first Health Day in 2023. This is the company's way of focusing on an issue that is near and dear to its corporate heart.

Lifelong learning as the key to success

Syntegon firmly believes that learning is the key to personal and corporate success. We are committed to high-quality training and professional development for all our employees.

With the Syntegon Learning World, we offer our workforce a demand-driven training portfolio currently consisting of more than 300 courses and over 8,600 digital training opportunities. Employees devoted nine hours on average to training and professional development in 2023.

Engaged in society

Syntegon takes responsibility for the local communities of its sites by donating to social initiatives, and encourages civic engagement on the part of its employees. In 2023, Syntegon and its employees donated a total of 113,000 euros to charity. We have also provided renewed financial support to CARE Deutschland, an aid organization that furnishes food and medicine to people in need.

In 2023, for the third year running, Syntegon teamed up with charities to stage a fund-raising drive that saw many wishes come true.
