Delivering ‘The Promise’ for 70 Years
It began in 1947 with a promise between a food producer, an inventive machinist, and a vendor of the most basic packaging materials. A promise to create the solution to an emerging problem: meet the packaging needs of a demanding economy through technology. From that first prototype and the machines that followed over the next 70 years, Kliklok-Woodman has helped the world’s leading companies become the best in their businesses by being the best in our own.
Kliklok LLC was incorporated in 1947, after developing the first locking corner tab for folding cartons and a machine to automatically form the cartons. The locking tabs clicked when they snapped into place, and were called “Klik-Loks”. The Dan Woodman Company, an engineering firm, was founded earlier. In 1947, in collaboration with Herman Lay (founder of Lay’s Potato Chips), they developed the Air Weigh System – the first machine to automatically weigh and bag potato chips.
Kliklok purchased the Woodman Company in the late 1960s, and eventually moved to the Woodman Company's location in Decatur, GA. Syntegon Technology acquired Kliklok-Woodman and Kliklok International (Bristol, UK) in December 2015.
