Congratulations to our colleague Markus Heinz on winning one of the prestigious PDA Industry and Honor Awards! The award not only underlines outstanding performance in education, but also the value of collaboration within the pharmaceutical industry.
Key takeaways
- PDA James P. Agalloco Award recognizes exceptional educational performance based on participant and faculty evaluations
- Training course together with industry partners provides insights into glass primary packaging, covering end-to-end processes for parenteral containers and ensuring deep technical understanding
- Strong focus on cross-industry collaboration, enabling participants to align knowledge, improve processes, and enhance product and patient safety
During the PDA Week in Denver, our colleague Markus Heinz received one of the prestigious PDA Industry and Honor Awards on March 22, 2026. The award is named after James P. Agalloco in honor of his work in developing the PDA education program and is presented annually to the PDA Training and Research Institute (TRI) faculty member who exemplifies outstanding performance in education. The selection is based on student and faculty evaluations.
Insights into seamless processes
For several years, Markus, as representative of the technology side, and his co-trainers from the glass manufacturing and pharmaceutical production industries have been offering the “PDA Best Practices for Glass Primary Containers Training Course”. The two-day course follows the process of packaging parenterals into vials, ampoules, cartridges, and syringes step by step, providing in-depth insights into seamless glass production, design, handling, inspection, and processing.
“I am very grateful for the recognition from PDA and – most importantly – from the participants of this training course. It is excellent proof of how collaboration across the pharmaceutical industry benefits everyone involved.”
Markus Heinz, Strategy and Global Product Manager Pharma Liquid at Syntegon
A long history of joint expertise
Syntegon has always been deeply involved in PDA activities. Markus took over the trainer role from Senior Product Manager Klaus Ullherr, who initiated this course together with industry partners. The goal was to guide and support participants throughout the entire process to foster a deeper understanding of glass containers and their relevance for product and patient safety. “We have definitely reached this goal, as the feedback shows,” Markus underlines. For him, nothing is more rewarding than imparting knowledge to those who must understand every detail of the filling process to ensure efficient and safe operations.
Collaboration and co-creation from the beginning
For Markus, the close collaboration with partners from diverse, but connected industries is the recipe for success: “Our participants benefit from comprehensive know-how and can address the right experts with their questions. From packaging engineers to filling line technicians to root cause investigators – at the end of the training course, everyone has the same understanding of glass primary packaging and its characteristics and can pass this new knowledge on to colleagues and processes in their own fields of work.
Join Markus and his colleagues in July
The next “PDA Best Practices for Glass Primary Containers Training Course” will be held by Markus and his colleagues on July 7-8, 2026, in Mainz, Germany. Leave us a note if you are interested in joining!
