Waiblingen, Germany – In cooperation with the initiative #liftUKRAINE, Syntegon brought 48 refugees from Ukraine to Waiblingen last week and arranged private accommodation for them with families in Baden-Württemberg.

25 adults, 21 children and two infants from Ukraine boarded a bus with the inscription #liftUKRAINE in the early hours of March 18 in Poznan, Poland. The initiative has set itself the goal of bringing as many women and children from Ukraine to Germany as possible in the coming weeks and months and arranging accommodation for them here with host families.

The initiators found a partner for the first aid program in Syntegon. The specialists for process and packaging technology took care of the accommodation of the refugees with families from the region at short notice. These families had agreed to take in the needy people only a few hours before their arrival. The meeting of the Ukrainians with their hosts on Friday afternoon took place at the Syntegon premises in Waiblingen. After their arrival, Syntegon had provided the Ukrainian refugees with a meal in the company canteen.

A professional project management team from Syntegon, coordinated by Jörg Stadelmann, Group Manager in Technical Sales, took care of the organization and the accommodation of the refugees. The helpers looked for families both within the company and in cooperation with partner organizations who were willing to take in the arriving refugees. In the short time available, they found a total of eleven families, who accommodated 37 of the 48 refugees. The remaining nine refugees were accommodated by friends and acquaintances in the region.

"We are are glad that we could reduce
the suffering of the refugees a little."

David Teske

Site manager David Teske is thankful for the initiative and the commitment of the Syntegon employees: "It is natural for Syntegon to help in this situation. We are are glad that we could reduce the suffering of the refugees a little.”

The initiative #liftUKRAINE wants to spare often overtired and traumatized people from Ukraine, especially mothers with children, a hard journey and a stay in overcrowded reception centers. Mathias Krug, one of the three initiators of #liftUKRAINE, draws a positive conclusion: "We had hardly any time to plan and depended on fast and uncomplicated help from various partners. In the end, we were able to arrange private accommodation for all Ukrainian families – also thanks to the commitment of Syntegon.”

In the next few days, #liftUKRAINE plans to bring more people to Germany and also to arrange accommodation for them with families. This time they will be picked up from a refugee camp in Ukraine. Syntegon will be involved again. Further supporters and people who are willing to take in women and children from Ukraine are welcome to contact the initiative via its website. (www.liftukraine.org)
