    Project Description

    A US-based customer produces toaster pastries. They were looking to further automate their production by removing manual operations from the packaging process. The customer required a fully automated packaging line for handling and cartoning of delicate single wrapped pastries. The new solution had to be flexible to accommodate various product counts and packaging patterns today and in the future. Besides automation and flexibility, the new equipment had to handle the products gently. In addition, the new equipment needed to fulfill the required hygiene standards.

    Our Technical Solution:

    • The flow-wrapped pastries go through a multiplier to distribute them across the infeed belt.

    • RPP pick-and-place delta robots gently pick each product with vacuum end effectors and place the pastries into the cartoner’s infeed chain.

    • Both, the RPP and the Kliklok MEC endload cartoner are fully integrated to achieve high performance and a constant product flow.

    • The Kliklok MEC endload cartoner loads stacks of 2x2 flow packs into each carton. The configuration and number of products per carton can be changed quickly according to the customer's production plan.

    System Components:

    • Curved infeed conveyor belt
    • One Syntegon RPP 3-1 robotic cell to load the infeed of the Kliklok MEC endload cartoner
    • Vacuum cup end-effectors
    • Kliklok MEC endload cartoner with patented rotary carton feeder

    Output:

    200 flow-wrapped pastries per minute:

    • 1st format: 50 cpm, 8 ct
    • 2nd format: 25 cpm, 16 ct
